There were no red skies at night or sailor's delight in Stamford Tuesday, as more than 100 Young Mariners program graduates found themselves landlocked for their graduation ceremony at the Stamford Yacht Club, when a boating expedition was canceled due to weather.
Each year, scores of fifth-graders graduating from the after-school program set sail to celebrate the completion of the program, which offers low-income students the opportunity to learn water safety and sailboat basics.
Claudia Moses, a fifth-grade student from Rogers International School, said she learned a lot from the program -- everything from marine biology lessons about invasive species to practical first-aid training.
