King, who plans to study theater at Columbia University next year, said he was all excitement and no nerves Wednesday, and joked that if he passed out during his speech, the audience would be able to attribute it to the sweltering heat and not stage fright.
Emergency personnel were called to the high school for a "mass casualty" situation, when people began falling ill from the heat.
Six ambulances, two engine companies and various police units were summoned to the high school shortly before 5 p.m., when more than a handful of people passed out from the heat.
The mass casualty call means the number of patients generated was greater than the resources emergency personnel had at their disposal -- as firefighters and other first responders responded to a fire at Government Center at the same time.
