Joey, of Wilton, was one of 160 young athletes between the ages of 7 and 13 participating in the second annual KIC IT Kids Triathlon, an event that raises money for Greenwich-based Kids in Crisis, an agency that provides shelter, crisis counseling and community education for children and families dealing with crises.
Sometimes she even has trouble keeping up with him, she said.
At the Greenwich triathlon, it was just four laps in the pool, and a couple of kids went out so fast that they had to stop, but he's like the tortoise and the hare.
[...] he gets on the bike and he can move a little faster.
The number of young participants in the children's event has swelled to about three times as many as ran last year, with a final tally hovering near 160 young athletes, according to Sarah Duffy Edwards, Kids in Crisis media and communications director.
In addition to the funds raised at the children's event, more than $150,000 was raised as of Friday evening for Sunday's adult triathlon, and additional donations will pour in through the end of the month when the final deadline rolls in, Duffy-Edwards said.
